FALL-WINTER 2024 UPDATE

Primary Care vs Urgent Care

As your child’s Primary Care and “Medical Home” we urge you to call our office first for all your child’s medical needs. Using Urgent Care centers (both in-person or virtual) for non-emergencies isn't your best choice, particularly when our office is open.

Why seeing your pediatrician is in your child’s best interest:

  • Continuity: All your child’s records are in the same place. We can better compare exams  if the initial visit as well as follow up visits are with us. Urgent care offices do not reliably send us their office notes to keep in your child’s chart.
  •  Quality:  when going to urgent care, you are assigned to a health care provider who typically does not know you or your child. Those providers have skill sets that vary widely, and we often see people coming back to see us the next day when parents doubt the advice of the provider they saw at urgent care.
  •  Cost:  Most insurance companies prefer primary care over urgent care for cost containment. The majority of health insurances require higher copay when Urgent Care is used, as opposed to one’s primary care giver.

We know there are times that your child will get injured or so sick that they need to be seen urgently.  If the problem is not an emergency, please call our office FIRST!  We can usually make room in our schedule to fit in urgent visits on the same day, since we have evening hours most weekdays and many Saturday mornings.  If you aren't sure a problem can wait until the next day, when we are closed, please page our on call provider who will return your call promptly.

COVID 19 Vaccine

We strongly advise our patients to get the COVID-19 2024-25 updated vaccine to protect themselves, their family members, and the community.  We encourage our patients to visit their local pharmacy or health department for this vaccine. More information about getting the COVID-19 vaccine can be found at:  https://www.cdc.gov/covid/vaccines/getting-your-covid-19-vaccine.html

Thank you and stay healthy!
